Topic 4-YETC

Spending time in the YETC lab helped me learn about a lot of different technology available to me. I hadn't realized how many different features were available to use while I go to school. What was especially useful was learning how to use the technology in my classroom. For example, I learned how I can use podcasts to show real-life simulations of events that I can't actually bring into the classroom. I can also allow the children to experiment with the technology themselves so it is more meaningful for them. I also learned about online sites that show how different aspects of science work and how we can show that on the computer. I enjoyed being able to play around with it and becoming more comfortable with the technology. I would like to use some of these programs in my future classroom. I think that real-life hands-on experiences are great ways to teach and I want to use those as much as possible, but when that isn't an option I think using technology to simulate experiences is great. It allows children to experience many more things than they would be able to without it.

The generation of students that I will be teaching are growing up with a technology rich environment. The majority of students will have technology in their homes and have it available to them. I need to create lessons that meet those students needs and keep them interested while still challenging them. I learned that a lot of those needs can be met by learning more about technology myself, and then taking it back into the classroom. Today was a great opportunity for me to realize how many different options and resources there are for using technology in the classroom.

Topic 3- UEN

My UEN public page is- http://my.uen.org/212810.

Learning more about the UEN website will be very helpful in my career. I had never been on that website before and I hadn't realized how many resources they offer. It is also so important to be able to personalize the site to fit my educational needs. I really liked how you can add links to resources that the state approves of right on the site. When creating a lesson plan I can use this site to find resources and tools to help get ideas and guidelines. The site also offers a place where I could post messages and assignments to future classes. This will be very helpful in connecting my classroom with technology and better meeting the needs of future students.

The group presentations were also very informative. Technology is being used more and more in everyday classrooms and it's good to learn how I can implement it into the classrooms. The presentation about the students getting the information on the internet reminding me how important it is to check resources and make sure they are legitimate and to teach students how to do that also. When I was in elementary computer time was only a few times a week and for short periods of time. It's important to realize how the use of computers in the classroom has changed and that they are used much more frequently.

Topic 2

The information we discussed today was very informative. The presentations gave a lot of good examples of why technology is important and how it can be implemented into the classroom. I liked the idea of bringing the whole school together to create a news cast. My high school did this but I had never thought of doing it with elementary students. It's a great way for students to get practice with technology and to keep them interested in what they are learning. I want to integrate technology into my classroom and use it with other subjects as much as possible. It's a great way to teach students and keep them interested.
It is so important to make sure students are competent with technology and to do this I need to become more comfortable with technology myself. I learned a lot of useful skills today and hope that I can become more comfortable with more practice.
